Polk County Public Schools Earn Top National Honors in 2012 Magna Awards

 

BARTOW, FL (April 12, 2012) Polk County Public Schools has been selected as a first place winner in the American School Board Journal’s (ASBJ) 18th annual Magna Awards program. The Magna Awards recognize districts across the country for outstanding programs that advance student learning and encourage community involvement in schools.  Polk County Public Schools was honored in the over 20,000 enrollment category.

McDonald's offers free FCAT breakfasts Monday morning

Tampa, Florida-- According to a recent release, more than 800 McDonald's restaurants in the state of Florida will provide a free breakfast to students on April 16, the first day of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT).

Students in grades three-11 can enjoy a complimentary Egg McMuffin, Apple Slices, and a low-fat milk or orange juice from any of the 188 McDonald's restaurants in the Tampa Bay area. 

Be sure to get there between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. to take advantage of this offer!

Polk County, Florida-- Friday April13, began the third and final part in the "Legends & Legacies" Symposium at Fantasy of Flight.

"Unspoken Valor: The Bomber Crews of World War II” event will continue tomorrow, Saturday, April 14.. 

The event features members of World War II bomber crews as they recount their experiences from inside the bomber aircrafts.

Bartow, Florida -- When the Lake Wales Police Department expressed a need to revamp two vehicles assigned to their citizens program, Bartow Ford volunteered to take-on the project.

The dealership is repainting two 1996 Ford Taurus sedans for the organization, so they can continue to be used to serve the community.

Mike Maskolunas, Bartow Ford's Collision Center manager, says the paint was donated by Lakeland vendor Auto Paint Supply.

The labor is Bartow Ford's contribution.

Bartow, Florida -- Bartow's Concert in The Park series takes place this Thursday.

Visitors are invited to come to Fort Blount Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Main Street).

Bring your own lunch or purchase a lunch-to-go from one of the downtown restaurants, which will be offering take-out specials that day.

Picnic blankets are available from the Main Street Bartow tent.

Concert in the Park is free.

The public is invited to enjoy a '50s family night car show at the Hawthorne Inn Assisted Living Center.

The event take place between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. this Thursday, April 12.

Organizers say there will be plenty of music, refreshments, and fun!

They're offering dash plaques for first 30 cars.
