Power outage caused by rotting power pole

Bartow, Florida -- Utilities officials with Bartow Electric said a brief outage Thursday was caused by a Progress Energy pole cross-arm that rotted and broke-off.

The outage, confined to Bartow's Southeast section, lasted about 45 minutes between 1:30 and 2:15 Thursday afternoon, according to Bradley Hiers, Bartow's Safety and Training Superintendent.

Hiers said Progress energy was able to re-rout the electric feed to the area, and will make the repair to the cross-arm at some time in the near future.

Art exhibition in Bartow begins Wednesday

Bartow, Florida -- Whether you're a seasoned critic or art novice, you can enjoy a free art exhibition Wednesday in Bartow!

The opening reception takes place between 5 and 7 p.m. at Carolyn's Art Gallery, 395 East Summerlin Street in Bartow.

Artistic samples on display include works by Gary Baker, Vilas Tonape, Beverly Williams, and David Woods.

The exhibit will remain on display until April 20.

Bartow, Florida -- The City of Bartow will be hosting an energy efficiency and conservation event at the Bartow Civic Center on March 30 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Civic Center is located at 2250 South Floral Avenue in Bartow.

The public is invited to stop by the Bartow Civic Center and find out ways to save money and become more energy efficient in your home and in your environment.
