Polk County Public Schools lists commencement

Polk County, Florida-- The 2013 graduation season is here, and as this year’s graduates prepare to take the next step towards future goals, family members, friends, and members of the community will want to share in their excitement.

Students who earned their diplomas will be honored at various graduation ceremonies in May and June, and Polk Public Schools reps have made it easy to see which schools' events are scheduled for when.

Winter Haven, Florida -- Splash and play for a lot less at Legoland Florida during some weekends in May if you live in Polk County.

During Polk County Residents' Days at the theme park, you can buy up to six tickets in advance for just $25. The tickets get you admission to both Legoland Florida and the Legoland Water Park.

Plus, a portion of each ticket sold goes toward helping children in Polk County.

Family torn by tragedy remembers kindness of deputy killed in crash

LAKELAND, Fla. - Today, 6-year-old Chelsea Moore is a bundle of energy. But 5 years ago, as a toddler, Chelsea was fighting for her life, the victim of a horrific lawn mower accident at her home in Lakeland.

"You feel like you're alone in your agony," recalls Chelsea's mother Nancy Moore.

It was a dark time for Chelsea and her family, made a little brighter when two of the first responders, Polk Deputies Shane Robbins and his partner Paul Fairbanks stopped by St. Joseph's Hospital with a special gift.

Man charged with secretly recording naked teens

Mulberry, Florida - Neighbors are calling him a pervert.

A Mulberry man who works for the Hillsborough school district is accused of secretly taping naked teenage girls.

Investigators say Dewey Norris, 51, confessed to using a camera disguised as a pen. They say he placed it on the counter in his bathroom and then secretly taped teenage girls while they used the rest room.

They say it was going on for at least the past two years.

Update: Brush Fire in Bartow, section of C.R. 555 is open

Bartow, Florida-- Bartow Fire Department are at the scene of a brush fire that has resulted in such a heavy smoke, Polk County Sheriff's Officials closed a section of County Road 555 in both directions.

County Road 555 from Bartow south to CR 640 has been re-open to traffic.

Three arrested for keeping gambling house

Polk County, Florida -- Three men have been arrested after soliciting undercover detectives to come to their gambling house.

On Wednesday, April 24, 2013, Polk County Sheriff's Office undercover detectives were at the Citgo gas station on US Hwy 17. The detectives who asked them if they would like to engage in a bingo form of gambling in a trailer they had set up.

Foot fetish arrest, 10-year-old child a victim

Polk County, Florida -- Deputies have a man in custody they say victimized women under false pretenses to touch their feet for sexual gratification -- and they are looking for more victims to come forward.

Deputies say 23-year-old Reginald Cruz, of Dundee, approached a 10-year-old child as recently as January of this year and asked to touch her toes.

He has been charged with lewd lascivious conduct on a person less than 18 years old, obtaining property by fraud, two counts battery and attempted battery.
