Global counterfeit DVD seizure started locally

Lakeland, FL - It's a global counterfeit motion picture DVD investigation that started in Lakeland, and extends to China.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations have confiscated 10,000 counterfeit DVDs, approximately $30,000 in cash, and about $144,000 from two bank accounts.

Polk County "Click it or Ticket" initiative busts hundreds

Polk County, Florida-- Commuters who failed to buckle-up between March 1 and March 16 were likely ticketed accordingly, as Polk Sheriff's deputies participated in the nationwide "Click it or Ticket" initiative.

Polk County Sheriff's Office records show seat belt citations issued during that time exceeded 300, and speeding citations issued took a close second with 295.

While patrolling for those who failed to "click it", deputies also found others in violation of various laws.

Tampa Bay, Florida -- Unseasonably cold weather will make for a very chilly start Thursday morning for the Tampa Bay area and Nature Coast.

A freeze warning is in effect for Citrus and Hernando counties from 4 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Thursday.

A frost advisory is in effect for Hillsborough, Pasco, Manatee, Highlands, Hardee, and Desoto counties from 4 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Man turns himself in after shooting at step-kids

Winter Haven, Florida-- The Bartow man wanted for firing gunshots at his step-children in public last week has turned himself in, Winter Haven Police announced Wednesday.

Police have been searching for Lowery since Friday, March 22, when he reportedly walked up to his grown step-children in a Winter Haven apartment complex parking lot and fired two shots- one into the air, and one at the ground.

Celebrate spring: Join Azalea Festival

Bartow, Florida -- There's a new way to kick off Spring in Bartow, and it's taking place this weekend with the inaugural Azalea Festival.

Inspired by the slogan, "City of Oaks and Azaleas," this year there's a new celebration of spring, families and fun.

The inaugural Azalea Festival is being planned by the Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce, and will be presented by Spath Jewelers.

Bartow, Florida -- The Polk County Clerk of Courts has launched a Facebook page in efforts to better connect with Polk residents and to provide quality customer support.

The new site can be viewed at www.Facebook.com/PolkCountyClerk.

The Clerk's Facebook page provides visitors with answers to commonly asked questions about traffic tickets, passports and marriage licenses.
