Duke TIP names Polk middle schoolers among best in nation

Polk County, Florida-- Polk County middle school students have been recognized by the Duke University Talent Identification Program, and are now being invited to take the incredibly intimidating SAT and ACT tests-- typically intended for high schoolers preping for college!

Polk County Public School officials sent out a detailed release about the honor, and even included a list of all qualifying middle schoolers:

Polk County, Florida-- The Davenport School of the Arts invites the public to attend its Sixth Annual All-County Gala Concert on Saturday, April 6.

Organizers say the event, "An Evening of Dance in Polk County", will begin at 7 p.m. in the school's Howe's Theatre, l, 4751 N CR 547, Davenport, FL 33837.

The Brown Bag Concert Series continues this week with the Bartow High School band and Southeastern University music departments providing entertainment.

Bring your lunch and enjoy free music between noon and 1:00 p.m. at the Bartow Public Library.

Elementary school staff members take Literacy Night to kids

Bartow, Florida -- For those students who have a hard time getting to school events, faculty and staff members at Spessard L. Holland Elementary took Literacy Night to the students.

Polk County Schools says Assistant Principal Tammy Cress came up with the idea as part of her intern program.

The night included fun activities that included storytelling featuring Principal Melody Butler and Bartow Public Library storyteller Linda Chancey who reads books to the kids as they snacked on pizza and cookies.

Bloomin' Arts Festival returns to Bartow this weekend

Bartow, FL -- Along with the flowers, art is in full bloom this week in Bartow.

March 2 and 3 marks this year's 42nd annual Bloomin' Arts Festival downtown.

As in years past, nearly a hundred differrent artists will showcase their skills of arts and crafts for juried prizes. There are lots of kid-freindly craft events there as well.
