Bartow, Florida -- A local food bank stands to benefit from a a national effort at Macy's stores this week.

Macy's is doing "Shop for a Cause" on August 25 and all proceeds from discount cards purchased will go to the Agape Food Bank for the entire day.

The food bank, in conjunction with Macy's stores nationwide, is helping by working with shoppers who purchase a $5.00 shopping pass.

The pass entitles customers to 25 percent off of all purchases all day long, including sale and clearance items. It also provides them with an entry into a chance at a $500 Macys shopping spree at every store.

Only three charities in Polk County have been certified for the event and Agape is one of them. They say 100 percent of the proceeds raised by the sale of the passes will go to the charity.

Agape provides food to 260 churches, shelters, pantries and member agencies in Polk, Highlands, and Hardee counties.

It also provides backpacks of food to four area schools' low income kids who would otherwise go hungry on the weekend.

There are a limited number of passes available.

If you are interested in purchasing one, call Mike Gordon at (863) 665-7074 extension 3217. Or email Mike at mgordon@cflcc.org.
