Free video games for teens this week in Bartow

Bartow, Florida -- As the school year winds down in Bartow, local teens will have a place to blow off a little steam and have some fun.

The Bartow Public Library is hosting a video game get-together complete with refreshments this Thursday.

Organizers say the teens are inveited to come enjoy popular Wii games such as Just Dance, Wii Basketball and Wii Play.

It's designed for young people grades 6-12, and will run from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., Thursday May 9th at the Bartow Public Library

During Polk County Residents' Days at the theme park, you can buy up to six tickets in advance for just $25. The tickets get you admission to both Legoland Florida and the Legoland Water Park.

Plus, a portion of each ticket sold goes toward helping children in Polk County.

The City of Bartow is continuing its "Movies on the Lawn" series this coming Friday night.

The event time always varies a bit since it starts "after dark" at the corner of Wilson Avenue on Main Street.

Bartow, Florida -- If the weather holds out this weekend, you may want to head to downtown Bartow for a little sampling of free music.

The Bartow Adult Concert Band is performing for a full hour this Sunday.

Now entering its 23rd season, the band performs one free concert a month at the Bartow Civic Center, which includes a wide variety of music: marches, classics, Latin influenced pieces, jazz and Broadway show tunes.

Generally speaking, their target audience is the retired population around the county, but everyone is welcome.

Just as temperatures are starting to warm back up, the Inaugural Florida Ice Cream Festival will held on Saturday, April 6 at Joker Marchant Stadium.

The event will include live entertainment, activities, contests, area vendors, great food, and - of course - lots of ice cream!

Organizers hope you will join them for this "sweet" inaugural event! It takes place from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Inspired by the slogan, "City of Oaks and Azaleas," this year there's a new celebration of spring, families and fun.

The inaugural Azalea Festival is being planned by the Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce, and will be presented by Spath Jewelers.
