Polk County, FL-- Visit the Polk County History Center this month for its Family FunDay, Lunch and Learn Series and other Halloween celebrations. The events are scheduled as follows:

  • Family FunDay: Saturday, October 13, 10 a.m. to noon.-- Families celebrate Halloween with a spooky craft and an All Hallows’ Eve history lesson. Admission is free. Activities are suitable for ages 4 to 10, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • October Lunch and Learn Series: Tuesday, October 16, 12:15 to 1 p.m.-- The monthly feature is a presentation on the “Discovery of the Zachary Taylor Road in Polk.” Polk County Historical Commission Chairman Lloyd Harris is the guest speaker. Admission is free and guests are encouraged to bring their lunch to enjoy during the lecture.
  • Ghosts of Bartow Walking Tour: Thursday, October 25 and Friday, October 26. from 7 to 9 p.m.-- Explore the spooky and colorful past of old Bartow Venture on a one hour guided walk around the blocks surrounding the historic Polk County Courthouse and enjoy a few tales about the haunting and strange occurrences nearby. Tickets are $6. Advanced ticket purchases are encouraged, as space is limited. Tickets can be purchased at the History Center. Tours are not recommended for ages 10 and under. All proceeds benefit the History Center’s efforts to preserve and promote Polk’s heritage.
