Sixth positive rabies case for 2012 in Polk County | Health
Bartow, Florida-- The Polk County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Section confirmed Polk County's sixth positive rabies case of 2012 today.
A resident on Sand Mountain Road in Fort Meade found his two dogs with a dead raccoon on Friday, May 11, and notified Animal Control shortly after.
PCSO reports that the raccoon was impounded and tested for rabies.
State Laboratory results came back positive, meaning the raccoon was infected.
Polk County's ordinance, which enforces all dogs and cats to wear a county license tag after vaccination against rabies, proves to be a necessity in cases like this.
Visit the PCSO Animal Control at 7115 de Castro Road, or the online tag renewal website to get your pets a tag today.
