14-year-old driver causes 3-car crash in Homeland | News

HOMELAND, Florida -- A mother and daughter are dead after a 14-year-old driver allegedly caused a 3-vehicle crash on Garfield Road and U.S. 17 North in Homeland, between Bartow and Fort Meade.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, a white 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 14-year-old Destiny Ensslin of Fort Meade was heading northbound on U.S. 17 turned westbound onto CR 640 into the path of a silver 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by 77-year-old Doris Foust.

The sheriff's office says the collision caused the Caravan to roll and land on the driver's side. The two cars then struck a 2001 red Toyota Corolla that was attempting to turn from CR 640 onto U.S. 17. The driver of that vehicle, 56-year-old Martha Criswell, was taken to Bartow Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Foust and her passenger, her 80-year-old husband Richard, were also taken to Bartow Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. They are expected to make a full recovery.

Destiny Ensslin was airlifted to a local hospital with critical injuries and is in stable, but critical condition. Her passengers -- her mother, Dawn Ensslin, and her 8-year-old sister Delaney -- both died from the accident.
