Meet the final three superintendent candidates

Polk County, Florida -- Starting next week, the Polk County School Board will host several “Meet and Greets” that will provide members of the public with the opportunity to meet and speak with the final three candidates vying for the role of Superintendent of Schools for Polk County.

On Tuesday, April 30, Polk County School Board members narrowed the list of five candidates to the final three:

Bartow, Florida -- The Polk County Clerk of Courts has launched a Facebook page in efforts to better connect with Polk residents and to provide quality customer support.

The new site can be viewed at www.Facebook.com/PolkCountyClerk.

The Clerk's Facebook page provides visitors with answers to commonly asked questions about traffic tickets, passports and marriage licenses.

Bartow, Florida -- Three commissioners were sworn-in Tuesday to serve terms as elected officials on the Polk County Board of County Commissioners. 

District 1 Commissioner George Lindsey was sworn in to office by County Attorney Michael Craig. State Attorney Jerry Hill administered the oath of office for District 5 Commissioner John Hall. And, Judge Keith Spoto administered the oath of office for District 3 Commissioner Edwin Smith, who was re-elected for a second term.

The commissioners serve four-year terms.

Tampa Bay, Florida -- Although the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) increased its operating budget by $4.5 million for the coming fiscal year, property owners will not pay a higher tax to the state agency responsible for flood control and surface and groundwater quality in the Tampa Bay area.

Tuesday night the Southwest Florida Water Management District Governing Board approved the 2012-13 fiscal year budget and millage (or tax) rate. The fiscal year starts Monday, Oct. 1.

Bartow, Florida -- Get to know some of your local candidates before you cast your ballot this busy political season.

There will be an informative rally of politicians in Bartow.

Citizens will be allowed to meet and greet with the candidates before upcoming elections while at the event on Tuesday between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Bartow Civic Center.

The Civic Center is located at 2250 South Floral Avenue, Bartow.

Tiger Bay Club changes guest speaker for upcoming meeting

Polk County, Florida-- The Polk County chapter of the Tiger Bay Club  regretfully announced that Gerard Robinson will no longer speak at their monthly meeting, scheduled for Monday, June 18 at 11:30 a.m.

In Robinson's place, County Commissioner Ed Smith and challenger Tracy Garcia will speak in his place. Their race will be decided at the August 14 primary.
