Public hearing on final budget and millage rates

Polk County, Florida-- A public hearing is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 4 in regards to the final budget and millage rates for fiscal year 2012- 2013 in polk County.

The public hearing will take place at 5 p.m. in the School Board Auditorium, located in the Polk County Public Schools District Office, 1915 South Floral Avenue, Bartow, FL 33803.

Considering this hearing is "public", all members of the public are welcome.

See what goes bump in the night this week in Bartow!

Bartow, Florida -- While most of us are sleeping, there's a whole world of activity going on. Nightime is the time lots of animals "do their thing".

This week, you can get a first-hand, up-close look at some of those animals when the Nocturnal Animals Presentation is made at the Bartow Public Library.

The folks from Lowry Park Zoo will be making what they're calling "an extreme presentation" at the Library on July 25 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m..

Computer Classes for adults

Bartow, Florida-- On July 23 and 30 there are computer classes offered to adults at the Bartow Public Library for reserved attendees only.

All classes begin at 1 p.m. and space is limited, so they encourage you to register soon. Once classes begin, no more names will be taken.

Dogs are all ears this Saturday at Bartow Library

Bartow, FL -- Therapy dogs do a lot for us humans. But this week, some humans will be treating the dogs to a little something special.

The program, called "Paws to Read" will be taking place at the Bartow Public Library this Saturday.

During the event, kids will be reading to therapy dogs.

Kids will get to read to Smiles Unleashed therapy dogs, and in exchange, will receive a free sticker and a book.

Public hearing to discuss '12-'13 Code of Student Conduct

Polk County, Florida-- The Polk County School Board will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 31 to consider changes to he 2012-2013 Code of Student Conduct.

"The public hearing will take place during the school board meeting, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. It will take place in the School Board Auditorium located in the Polk County Public Schools District Office," Polk County Public Schools said in a release.

The Polk County Public Schools Office is located at 1915 South Floral Avenue, Bartow, FL 33830.
