Polk County’s Small Business Center has new name

Polk County, Florida-- As part of its economic development restructuring process, the Board of County Commissioners and the Central Florida Development Council, Inc. (CFDC) have announced a name change that better fits expanding services offered to Polk County’s small business community.

Dispose household hazardous materials for free

Bartow, Florida -- It's sort of like an amnesty day for your household hazardous chemicals. Disposing of such materials properly can sometimes become expensive, but county officials don't want people resorting to dumping the items, because it can damage the environment.

So now, Polk County residents, including folks from Bartow, can safely dispose of household hazardous waste and electronic equipment for free during a collection event hosted by the county's Waste Resource Management Division.

Treasure? Bartow antique fair set for Saturday, April 13

Bartow, Florida -- Hey, you never know.

Lately, there have been all sorts of stories about people finding rare baseball cards and valuable furniture at antique shows. And maybe, just maybe - there's a treasure waiting at this weekend's antique show in Bartow.

The plan is for lots of tables and displays to be in place this Saturday, April 13 -- right in the middle of downtown.

Organizers of the Antique Fair say it will include a display of various antique,collectors items.

It all takes place from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. along Main Street in downtown Bartow.

Get rid of household hazardous waste, electronic waste on April 13

Polk County, Florida-- Bartow, Florida – How does one go about getting rid of an old television or computer? Or what about a video camera, and the dead batteries that go along with it?

If you're looking for a place to dump your electronic or hazardous waste for free, you'll want to take advantage of the upcoming collection event hosted by Polk County's Waste Resource Management Division.

On April 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Polk residents can dispose of any of the following items in the Lakeland Center's south parking lot, 701 West Lime Street:

Antique Show in Bartow this week

Bartow, Florida -- Did you know that not too long a ago in Maine, a guy picked up a few old Coca Cola Collectibles, and some other odds and ends for about a 100 bucks?

Among the items was an old baseball card, and as it turns out, the card was 148 years old, and recently sold at auction for $92,000.

You never know what you may find if you visit the Main Street Antique Fair March 9 in downtown Bartow, from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
