Broken CSX rail means temporarily road closures

Bartow, Florida -- A broken CSX will experience lane closures on Monday, May 6.

CR 546, Saddle Creek Road, will experience lane closures from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as a crew repairs a broken rail in the CSX crossing.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution and add extra time for trips through the area.

Bartow, Florida -- CSX personnel have completed the removal of the train cars that were blocking travel in the 100 block of North Crown Avenue.

Thie roadway is now clear for vehicle and pedestrian travel.

Road changes for Relay for Life in Bartow

Bartow, FL -- Due to some road closures for this year's Relay for Life in Bartow, police have asked us to forward the following directions and detours:

The Relay For Life of Bartow is set to take place on Friday, April 12. This year the Relay will be held in downtown Bartow rather than at the High School.

Polk County "Click it or Ticket" initiative busts hundreds

Polk County, Florida-- Commuters who failed to buckle-up between March 1 and March 16 were likely ticketed accordingly, as Polk Sheriff's deputies participated in the nationwide "Click it or Ticket" initiative.

Polk County Sheriff's Office records show seat belt citations issued during that time exceeded 300, and speeding citations issued took a close second with 295.

While patrolling for those who failed to "click it", deputies also found others in violation of various laws.

St. Patrick's Day warning: Don't mix 'Car Bombs' with car keys!

Polk County, Florida-- Irish Car Bombs, Guinness, Irish Coffee, green beer- whatever the beverage of choice may be this St. Patrick's Day, residents are being warned not to test their luck with drinking and driving.

A recent release sent from the Polk County Sheriff's Office says deputies will be on high alert over the weekend, and they'll be cracking down on intoxicated drivers.

Police issue warning in Bartow this weekend: Buckle Up!

Bartow, Florida -- The Bartow Police Department announced they are going to increase their search for seat belt violations starting March 1.

Hundreds of of other law enforcement agencies across Florida are renewing a pledge to save lives by intensifying efforts to enforce seat belts laws-among all motorist during the "Click It or Ticket" mobilization.

That means if you're caught driving without your seat-belt on you can be issued a citation.

Word of Warning to Bartow drivers!

Bartow, FL -- Don't say we didn't warn you!

Due to an increase of complaints from motorists, the Bartow Police Department has announced it will be monitoring the intersection of US 98 (Broadway Avenue) and Alternate Hwy 60 (Van Fleet Drive), for drivers who block the intersection causing traffic to be delayed more than necessary.

In other words, don't create gridlock by entering the intersection if you're not 100% sure you're going to make it all the way through.
