Man steals appliances, parade float | Weird
Lake Wales, FL -- Detectives arrested a man for stealing a number of appliances from two places in Polk County, including a parade float.
According to the sheriff's office, detectives discovered that 25-year-old Anthony Scottie Wyatt brought the float to a recycling center to be scrapped after he stole it from a Lake Wales home.
Back on Oct. 31, the homeowner, at 1224 SR 60 West in Lake Wales, called police saying someone stole his air conditioner, hot water heater, refrigerator and fan.
On Nov. 4, detectives were contacted again from the same man saying someone had dismantled his fence and stole a 7 by 15 foot parade float that was to be used by members of the Circle of Friends Ministry this upcoming holiday season.
Police say the thief, later identified as Wyatt, also stole all of the wood from the float and the two front tires and then hooked the trailer to a truck and towed it to the recycling center.
Detectives found Wyatt at 5748 Pipes Road in Bartow but he fled on foot in a thick wooded area. Multiple units responded to help find Wyatt who was found near Barnes and Barnhorst roads after numerous residents in the area reported seeing him running through yards and climbing over barbed wire fences.
In an interview with detectives, Wyatt confessed to stealing the float and an air conditioner unit at a home on Barnes Road around Oct. 26 and scrapping that as well.
He is being charged with 2 counts Grand Theft, Burglary to a Structure, 2 counts Dealing in Stolen Property, 2 counts Defrauding a 2nd Hand Metal Dealer, Criminal Mischief and Resisting a Law Enforcement Officer without Violence. He is currently out on bond.
Wyatt has previously been arrested on multiple drug charges, fleeing to elude, and hunting with a light at night.
